Morning Motivator - What's Your Limit?

"Resolve to succeed. The greatest discovery one can make is that nothing is impossible."
- Unknown

As I have spent the past week in my childhood home of San Diego, I have been revelling in the ideas of my ABILITY to achieve and be "SUCCESSFUL."

How many people KNOW their limitations? Honestly, how would you know what they are? Often, you overhear people speaking about what they CAN and CAN NOT do. I find this to be very INTERESTING as most people have never TRIED the things the often "CANNOT" do.

I am fortunate that I have someone close to me that is very SUPPORTIVE of my ideas and dreams. My current plans include pursuing a Graduate degree and onto my Ph.D. in Psychology. Additionally, my goals to expand my programs at work to a national space are a driver of AMBITION. Am I CAPABLE of accomplishing either? Maybe.... Maybe not - who knows?

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Here is what I DO know:
- if I do not give the EFFORT to pursue my dream I WILL NOT achieve it!
- if I FAIL to BELIEVE in my ability to achieve, I will surely FAIL overall!
- if I do not SURROUND myself with supportive people and a SUCCESS system, I will experience much more difficulty in attaining my goals!

You MUST believe in yourself and understand that the GREATEST limiting factor in your life is... YOU!

Perceive, Believe and ACHIEVE... I am CONFIDENT in YOUR abilities.

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Detox the Mind...

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind"
- unknown

Special THANK YOU to Andréa McCarther for sharing this story with me. I appreciate your support Andréa!!

We hear a lot about detoxing our physical bodies today from all the chemicals, bacteria and pesticides in our foods. It does our body good to go through deep cleanses and rid our bodies of toxins. In the same way, there are all kinds of toxins that can build up in our mind. When we go around dwelling on the wrong thoughts, thinking about what we can't do, how somebody hurt us, what someone said we couldn't do, and how we'll never get ahead; those thoughts are toxic thoughts. And toxic thoughts left alone become like toxic waste. It will eventually contaminate our whole life. It affects our self-image. It affects our attitude and our level of confidence. It becomes a part of who we are.

That's why it says in Proverbs 4:23, "Above all else guard your heart for it affects everything you do." The writer is saying to make guarding your mind a priority. Put this at the top of your "To Do" list because if your mind gets polluted, your whole life is going to be polluted.

Every morning when we get up, we should go through this cleansing and detoxing.

Forgive the people that have hurt us.
Let go of every disappointment.
Detox low self-esteem.
Detox the negative words.
Detox little dreams.

If you will guard your mind and not let these toxic thoughts take root, but keep it full of faith-filled thoughts, you're going to rise higher and higher into new levels with God!

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Be Mad at Your Mom

"Be careful darling…"
-Your Mom

What was mom REALLY saying to you as a child when she would whisk you on to school with a smile and a "be careful?" Was is that she LOVED you and wanted you to be safe from danger? Was it her way of PROTECTING you from the woes of the world? Not likely...

What your mother WAS doing was protecting HERSELF from the pain of your hurt, injury or disappointment. Think about it... What does that statement REALLY tell you? "Don't take risks, you might get hurt," "Take the CONSERVATIVE path, there is less risk for failure," etc...

I'm not suggesting you go and SCOLD your mother for brainwashing you as a child to be overly CAUTIOS. I'm NOT telling you to bring this up at Thanksgiving dinner either. What I am saying is to consider the WORDS you use and the way you speak to YOURSELF.

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Negative self talk is on of the most DETREMENTAL psychological activities you can take part in. Many people PARTICIPATE daily in this type of behavior as well.

You must SHUT OUT the little voice that says, "don't take that risk," "You can't do that," "you are not good enough, smart enough or talented enough."

By learning to IDENTIFY this inner voice of self defeat, you can also learn to change thought processes to be more positive and progressive.

You CONTROL your own attitude - choose SUCCESS and POSITIVITY. The things you seek in life will then be ATTRACTED to you!!

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - The "Lesser" Player on the Team

"Every man I meet is my superior in some way. In that, I must learn of him." -Emerson

We ALL like to win when we compete. We all seek to be the BEST player on the team and get all the ACCOLADES. It FEELS great to be the "go to guy (or gal)" when your team needs someone to step up!

Consider this... If you are always the BEST player on the team, who do you learn from to become BETTER? How much POTENTIAL for growth do you have when you are already the best? Who on the team has the most OPPORTUNITY to be better than you are today?

My dad always said, "it is better to be the worst player on the best team than the best player on the worst team.". What he was saying is that when you are surrounded by TOP talent, you have the ability to become better, faster. When you are the best and surrounded by MEDIOCRITY, you are likely to begin to become worse.

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
When you are choosing a team, a workplace or even friends, seek to surround yourself with people that have strengths GREATER than yours.

Take the opportunity to check your EGO at the door and find a true GROWTH opportunity by learning from someone that is more skilled or has a greater expertise.

Remember... The student often becomes the teacher because the teacher has difficulty learning and thinking beyond the level they are at.

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - The Law of the Garbage Truck

"Happiness is a decision you make daily. You don't choose what will happen to you, but you will choose how other will affect you."
- Unknown

I want to say a special thank you to my good friend, Arlene Raines, of Riley, Warnock and Jacobsen Law in Nashville for this excellent story.

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy and I mean he was really friendly.

So I asked, "Why did you just do that? That guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"

That is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks.  They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.  As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.    Don't take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,

so..... (2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:)

"Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't."

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Cheers,
Zach
