Morning Motivator - Invest The Time!

"Of course you can call me... I see you every year!"
- Tina Kizer

How long does it take to BUILD a relationship? How VALUABLE is a relationship?

Any QUALITY relationship is built of FAMILIARARITY, TRUST and CONSISTENCY.

BUILDING great relationships will require that you, as a professional, always YIELD to the benefit of your client over yours. It will require that you ask HOW someone would like to be treated. It will require that you stay PATIENT, continually EDUCATE and be AVAILABLE on their schedule (within reason).

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Learning to be TRUSTED and RESPECTED first, before you ever make a dollar, is a very long term focus.

It is both DIFFICULT and FRUSTRATING... And yet, if you do it well...

One day, it is very REWARDING - personally and professionally.

Are you INVESTING the time to build a better future?

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – Think Success and Succeed, Think Failure…

"Our thoughts create our reality -- where we put our focus is the direction we tend to go."
- Peter McWilliams

I love a time CRUNCH!  It brings out the BEST in me… every time!

People respond to PRESSURE in varying ways.  Some have MeLTdOwnS AND OTHERS rise above to ACHIEVE… why??

Two elements are at play here - ORGANIZATION and CONFIDENCE. By organizing your actions in a PRIORITIZED fashion, you are able to put "first things first" and eliminate the items that will cause the most stress ongoing.  Secondarily, you must BELIEVE and have the CONFIDENCE that you can achieve your goals and tasks.

As a fellow leader, I imagine you are like me, in the fact that you NEVER expect to fail and ALWAYS expect that you can achieve the goals you set.  I just assume I will be successful if I DECIDE to do something.

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:

Your mind set is one of the most POWERFUL success tools you have in your arsenal.  Your SELF-BELIEF in your achievement in INFECTIOUS and, as long as it is resolute, it is also IMPENETRABLE.

My father had a friend that told me once, "Fake it until you make it!"

Although not an UNCOMMON phrase, it is very appropriate for those of us that do not yet have that HIGH confidence level needed to succeed.

As a personal testament, if you WILL "fake it" and ASSUME that you will be successful – you will!  After a few times of ACHIEVING your goals, you will build the inherent confidence to continue with that same self-belief and eventually you will not be FAKING any longer.  Once you get there… WOW!  No THAT is powerful.

Assume you WILL succeed – ACT accordingly – CONTINUE to drive until others believe same as you – FIND success.  That's it.  It is just that easy (even if you have to FAKE it!)

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Quality Creates Quantity

"Quality means doing it right when no one is looking."
- Henry Ford

Yesterday, a friend of mine, Mr. Jonathan Grigsby met with me to DISCUSS my company's IT services at Advanced Network Solutions.

We were QUICK to assess some opportunities to improve services, as well as schedule next steps.

What makes this such a BIG deal?

Well, Jonathan and I have not SPOKEN in over 2 years, except for a 5 minute discussion 3 months ago at a random trade show. IMPORTANT to note is that because we spent the prior 5 years working closely, getting know one another, we were able to ESTABLISH a great trust and respect.

And now... We may just do business together AGAIN!

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
ANYONE can make a contact at a mixer. FEW can build a relationship.

ANYONE can keep "in touch" with people. FEW dedicate their character such that they don't have to be "in touch" to be trusted.
ANYONE can talk at a group. FEW can teach and lead.

One day, you will be JUDGED on quality... And in turn you will find that the QUANTITY you are seeking is closely followed.

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – How Preparedness Won a Championship

"Good luck happens when preparedness meets opportunity"
- Unknown

As a long time Saints fan, I am not quite ready to stop ANALYZING the successful run of the WHO DAT NATION.

Yesterday evening, as I was listening to recaps of the game, I overheard Tracy Porter chatting about the interception of Peyton Manning which sealed the Saints VICTORY.  During his interview he detailed the UNDERSTANDING of the offensive routes that the receivers were running on that specific play.  He noted that he had ANALYZED the formation on film MANY TIMES and KNEW what to expect as a result, allowing him to jump the route and score!

Some people may think that ATHLETES are all big dumb animals.  More brawn than BRAINS.  I would like to contest that comment.  Sure, they are paid for their strength, speed and endurance, and yet the SUPERSTARS are the ones that are INTELLIGENT and disciplined in their PREPAREDNESS.  Quite similar to your office setting (without the smell of sweaty of socks and fewer TV reporters).

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Being identified as a PROFESSIONAL is developed by having a comparative advantage (remember that old economics term?) in a skill set over others which is found to be marketable and useful in an organization.  Simply put, you are better than most common people at a specific task.

Just as an athlete is faster or stronger than you, it is your ABILITY to manage time and finances that make YOU better than they.

Overall, whether you are in finance or professional sports, you will CONTINUALLY find that the people who ACHIEVE under the highest pressure, the ones that SUCCEED at the highest levels and CONTINUE to attain their goals year after year, are the people who are DISCIPLINED and PREPARED.

Question yourself.  Are you taking the APPROPRIATE steps to be PREPARED for success?  Studying, training, testing, connecting…  WHAT ELSE?!   (and just because I still can't believe it… WHO DAT!!)

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - WHO DAT!!

"You've got to get to the stage in life where going for it is more important than winning or losing."
- Arthur Ashe

Last night, something WONDERFUL happened… the New Orleans Saints won the NFL SuperBowl.   A long awaited victory for a storied franchise.

Interesting to me is the continued references of how the Saints SAVED the city of New Orleans.  In a sense, I agree.  Yet, I still BELIEVE that the Crescent City would be standing today had they lost.  The city and its people would have still touted their RESOLVE and ability to battle back through ADVERSITY.  They may have used a loss as a motivation to come back STRONGER, rather than a reason to GIVE UP.  The great people of New Orleans would have carried on.

Now, I did say that I agree the city was SAVED a little by the Saints… The funny thing about WINNING is that it helps EVERYONE.  Sure, your winning a big deal MAY not save your city, yet it does help your family, friends, community, and clients.  It does create a sense of PRIDE amongst the people that know and believe in you.  It is from that CONFIDENCE that you are able to INSPIRE the actions of others…

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Do you think it is COINCIDENCE that successful people congregate together?

WINNING creates a CONTAGIOUS mentality of perpetuating successful behavior.  When someone you know WINS… you try harder.  When they ACHIEVE a goal you are confident you can meet also, you often EXCEED in your attempt.  It is the WINNING spirit that DRIVES continued success.

Did the Saints really save New Orleans?  Sure, as much as the city saved them.  By leaning on one another for STRENGTH, FOCUS and PURPOSE, they were both able to leverage the strength needed to RISE UP and OVERCOME adversity.  And in the end, both the city and the team showed everyone in the world that WHO DAT isn't just some crazy saying… it's the mantra for PERSEVERANCE and WINNING!

Thank you Saints and thank you New Orleans!  WHO DAT!!

Cheers,
Zach
