Morning Motivator - Purchase Accountability

"Why you? Simple. If you don't do it right, I can come kick you in the shin."
- Anonymous

When PURCHASING, we are seeking two (2) things - utility and accountability. I believe that ACCOUNTABILITY is what you really pay for...

Face it - when you buy something you EXPECT it will work, right? If it doesn't meet your NEED, you just pass it over. This is WHY "accountability" is what you are really seeking.

When you buy something and it DOES NOT work as you hoped - what do you do? Throw up your arms and say "oh well?" Or do you go seeking RECOURSE?

You DEMAND accountability!! You want it fixed or your money back... And someone better own up to one or the other!!

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
As a business PROFESSIONAL (i.e. someone that cares about the mutual benefit of their clients and self), you MUST sell your ACCOUNTABILITY!

All salespeople, expect for the best of the best, have a BAD habit of over selling ideas and under delivering accountability. Hence, as a user, you buy it, then get SHOVED to an 800 number.

Want to see your business BOOM!?
COMMITT to TOTAL ACCOUNTABILITY for your clients needs - you solve it, not matter what "it" is - and you will find more clients will gravitate your way!

Now who is going to fix my toaster!?

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – My Birthday Wish

"I have learned that no one expects me to be perfect, so it is about time to cut myself some slack."
- Zachary Barker

Today is my birthday (32 for those of you wondering).  It is also Wednesday, which means we all have to work instead of partying all day long.  Sorry.

On my birthday, I get a WISH.  Today, I am going to make a wish for all of the people that support me, BarkLoud and the Morning Motivator.  I wish for you to no longer be "BOGGED down by perfection."

As top achievers and type A personalities, we are GIFTED with a competitive nature.  We often WIN.  We hate to LOSE.  Moreover, we all know that we can never turn "it" off.

As a result, we EXPECT perfection from ourselves all the time.  When we miss our goal, we take personal blame.  When we cannot CONTROL a situation, we accept the pressure of the outcome.  We NEVER have a day off.  We WANT to be perfect every single day…

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
When was the last time you were PERFECT?  Who is the last person you PERSONALLY knew that was perfect?  Do you even know what PERFECT means??  (Just kidding)

PERFECT is NEITHER a reasonable nor an attainable milestone in anyone's life.  This is partly from the fact it is a PERCEPTION of others.  Also, because you are HUMAN (which means you screw up daily).

Since we KNOW we cannot be PERFECT – why hold ourselves to that standard?

Do you best to be PERFECT in loving your spouse, your kids and your friends.  And do your BEST (your very best) at work… that is as CLOSE to perfect as you can get.  And it is much more peaceful there too.  (Take it from me, I am apparently OLD, yet wise, according to my friends.)

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone.

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – Are You Technically Flawed?

"We want to make sure you, as sales, do not have to get technical."
- Richard Tatum, President of Midsouth Consulting Group

With the impending "OFFICIAL" launch the BarkLoud Group around the corner; I have been spending time TRAINING with my strategic partners better learning their businesses and their operational models.  Yesterday, I spent the day with the team at Midsouth Consulting Group – very IMPRESSIVE!

In discussion with their President (and my friend), Richard Tatum, I EXPRESSED my desire to FOCUS on generating new opportunities SOLELY – not delivering or selling on technical expertise.  I shared my belief that the cause for DELAY in the sales process of technical businesses are CAUSED by a lack of a defining "cut over" from sales to operations.

Traditionally, most business OWNERS were once the technical deliverer of services, never in sales or management until absolutely REQUIRED.  (Read the E-Myth if you want a great example).  This CREATES sympathy for OPERATIONS and asks SALES to take on more TECHNICAL responsibility up front.  (SECRET: Most OPERATIONS people think sales teams do not do enough work, while most SALES people desire an environment where they "just sell.")

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
The above is TECHNICALLY FLAWED!  In order to have EXCEPTIONAL delivery of services and maximum EFFICIENCY, you must have a "VERY CLEAR" DIVISION of responsibility.

Look at your company…  Where are the SALES people effective?  I hope that their skills are meeting new people, creating interest in a service or product, maintaining the relationship long term seeking new opportunities.

What are the OPERATIONS people effective?  I hope that their skills are TECHNICAL delivery of their expertise, timely execution of tasks, minimizing intrusion into the clients' environment.

OPERATIONS do not want to sell.  SALES do not want to deliver technical services.  While I do agree there are instances where it is required, you must ask,  WHY IN THE HECK WOULD EITHER SIDE BE ASKED TO DO THE OTHERS "SUPERIOR SKILL?"

So which side of the equation are YOU?  (Both is not an efficient answer)

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Just Go!

"An object at rest will stay at rest, and an object in motion will stay in motion at a constant velocity..."
- Sir Isaac Newton

What is the WORST thing about Monday morning? The fact it IS Monday morning. (You have heard that one before, eh?)

Funny thing, Sir Isaac was a business GENIUS!! He was focused on PHYSICS, but it is his PSYCHOLOGICAL breakthrough in business that makes him so amazing...

He KNEW that if you ATTACKED Monday morning, springing from your bed, cooking a good meal and FOCUSING on being a productivity MONSTER from 8am -12p, that your week would be AMAZING!! He also knew that if you hit the SNOOZE bar, you would snooze through the week (well, maybe he didn't really know what a snooze bar was).

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Work, just like going to the gym or a company party, you may be HESITANT to go with vigor, yet once you get there - YOU ROCK!!

Instead of hitting the SNOOZE bar tomorrow, JUST GO! Spring up and start attacking your day.

Then Wednesday morning you can decide if you were better today (after a few snooze bars) or Tuesday (when you attacked your day)...

Go get 'em!!

Cheers,
Zach
