Morning Motivator - You Blew It... You OWN it!

"I am sorry I forgot to email you. Breakfast is my treat next week."
- Me

Everyone has the POTENTIAL to fail, forget and not plan ahead. I am not IMMUNE!

This morning, at 7am no mind you, I was SCHEDULED to have breakfast at Noshville Deli (Nashville) with a very good friend and sought after business partner, LeShane Greenhill of Pi-Shon Consulting.

I APPRECIATE his willingness to get up early and focus his time with me. One challenge... I'm in North Carolina. (I officially screwed up!)

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
WHEN you make a mistake... OWN IT!

I cannot change the fact I STOOD UP one of my favorite people. What I CAN do I apologize, own the mistake and make amends in some varying way.

Additionally, when you make a mistake, ANALYZE what you could have done to prevent it and IMPLEMENT that process going forward.

It is only a MAJOR success violation if you don't learn and improve from your error.

SORRY LESHANE! BREAKFAST IS ON ME!

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - What Are Your Options?

"Options - the ability to choose - is real power."
- Tim Ferriss, author of "The Four Hour Work Week"

Have you ever CONSIDERED when you are at your most relaxed and confident? Was it when you were FORCED into a situation... Or... When you had TOTAL CONTROL?

The ABILITY to choose your own involvement, level of engagement, amount of investment, etc is what you SHOULD be seeking in your life. CHOOSING your career, relationships and educational path will provide you with a HEIGHTENED level of FULFILLMENT.
Now THE question becomes, "How do I create more options for myself?"

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
There are a few QUICK and SIMPLE ways to better your options:

1. CONNECTIVITY: if you know more (and better) people, you will have greater access and opportunity

2. EDUCATION: if you know more than the next guy, you will have much greater opportunities (remember an expert is someone that knows more than others, not everything)

3. SERVICE: find ways to help others create more opportunities and you will inherently create more for yourself. (We most often take care of those that care for us, right?)

The BEST attribute of these 3 action items: YOU have the OPTION to choose each action today!!

WOW! You ARE powerful...

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Get in Your "Success Position"

"A great coach wasn't always a great player. Rather, he was a great teacher that new his limits."
- Unknown

I am continually SHOCKED at how often a GREAT leader is sabotaged by misaligned positioning.

As much as you may want a great SALES person to be a great MANAGER, it doesn't always work. A great ACCOUNTANT doesn't always make for an exceptional CFO. (Even though you may think each would)

Leadership and management are special skills, similar to "attention to detail" and "time management." Still, you find TOP PRODUCERS being pulled from successful roles into leadership and vice versa.

Business owners will still ask, "if they cannot do the low level function, how can they manage and lead?"

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Management is NOT production. The skills are not RELATED at all.

Leadership is a COMMITTMENT of teaching and self-sacrifice for the enhancement of another (which in turn advances your goals also).

Understand, your SUCCESS is as much about "positioning" as it is "skills." Find yourself in the wrong role and you will have an IMMEDIATE cap on your potential.

As you seek career and life opportunities, be mindful of your natural skills and find a COMPLIMENTARY role to them. Don't jam the square peg in the round hole... Because even if you get it through, it will be a painfully bad fit.

It is from a complimentary role that you will find the GROWTH and CREATIVITY to achieve greatly!

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – You vs. Your Ego

"The ego isn't wrong: it's just unconscious… Don't take the ego too seriously."
- Eckhart Tolle, Author of 'A New Earth:  Awakening to Your Life's Purpose'

I am reading a NEW book given to me by a very good friend, David Oliphant of NationLink Wireless in Franklin, TN.  (Thanks DO!)

I must say, I have been ENJOYING its challenging and deep perspectives on ego and self. Within the book, thus far, is a discussion on how the EGO overcomes self and is the causal factor in our IDENTIFICATION.  Simply put, we are not ourselves, as much as we are the collection of thoughts and emotions expressed by our minds most simple function: EGO.

As an example, I am finally coming to grips with the fact that my greatest professional SHORTCOMING is that I take FAILURES personally – very deeply personally at that.  I do not mean big failures, rather simple ones, such as an unproductive phone call.

While I do BELIEVE that you must take personal ownership for results (i.e. ACCOUNTABILITY), one cannot allow for ones "self" to be defined by the results of an uncontrollable interaction with another EGO-DRIVEN human being… (I told you it was deep)

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:

The REALITY is this.  You ARE a top notch, high quality person REGARDLESS of your failures, achievements, possessions, etc.

Your ability to finish TPS reports effectively or close 99% of sales calls DOES NOT define you as a person.

To gain success, we must move past the SHALLOW emotions we feel that drive our behaviors and into a HIGHER understanding of personal self worth.

Once you REALIZE that you are EXCEPTIONAL and that your success is a result of your FOCUSED EFFORTS, not divine selection, then you will attain your goals much faster.

Remember to stay GROUNDED… that nasty little EGO can find ways to SABOTAGE you from many angles!  (Now go kick some butt today!)
