Morning Motivator - Relax... (If Your Doing the Right Things)
- Zachary Barker
STRESS is part of any job, tasks or commitment.
Psychology suggests that the cause of stress derives from the SUBCONSCIOUS mind's continuing use of resources associated with unfulfilled obligations. Simply, your brain is STRAINED because you have too much to do!
The QUESTION then becomes, "Why are you stressing about the tasks you CANNOT control?"
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Life is full of "UNCONTROLLABLES" - your parents thoughts about your spouse, your company's growth rate, a clients decision making timeline, etc.
What will you DO to change your control position on these? NOTHING.
You CAN control your ACTIONS - thought processes, follow up activities, communications, education, new business calls.
If you are doing all the things you CAN control - RELAX! Everything else WILL fall into place. (And the sooner you relax, the sooner you will see it).
Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – Who’s Your Yin?
- Chang Tsai, (1020-1078), philosopher
Verne Harnish, author of "Mastering the Rockefeller Habits", sent an email communication out a few weeks back about RECRUITING your "Number 2.". The reference was about finding the COMPLIMENTARY person to your business – the Yin to your Yang.
When you think about your business, family, sports teams, spiritual involvements, you must have a COUNTERBALANCE to your thought processes. A good husband may YIELD to his wife, yet will not follow without discussing their opinions. A good CFO has the ability to challenge the CEO in any business. An impactful pastor MUST be able to have the discussion about the "value of religion."
The PRESENCE of your YIN is what keeps you from succumbing to "tunnel vision" or becoming a zealot in your passions. This is the person that keeps you GROUNDED and AWARE of your actions. (Think about the roles of your best friends…)
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Just as important as having your YIN is, it is EQUALLY important that you serve in that role for others.
I am the first to admit that I can be OUTSPOKEN and BOLD in my views. Additionally, I will share with you that (sometimes) I play that "adversarial role," to ensure there is an opposing voice for consideration. We must note, the most DANGEROUS decisions are made in the context of "group think" – the overwhelming "YES" of a group, without challenge. This is why you NEVER want to build a team of "YES MEN." They will destroy your ability to attain real VISION…
Today, you WILL be presented with an idea. You may or may not AGREE with it. However, if you find that a GROUP (2 or more people) is making the decision and all that you hear is "yes, yes, yes"… say NO! See how being the YIN can provide insight and value to the group. You may be the one that SAVES the group from a bad decision (and if not, then you will be the driver of the INCREASED resolve to follow through on the decision.)
Either way – the team WINS!
Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – Take Me to School…
- Chinese Proverbs
I am EXCITED!! Today, I have learned a new way to EFFECTIVELY help my clients with cost and functionality. Why so excited?
First, it is a HUGE jump in our businesses ability to assist multiple new groups and protect clients. Additionally, I NEVER knew about it before.
EDUCATION is a daily commitment to learning – both from reading and from others. By CONTINUALLY testing what you believe to be true, you have the ability to find new, better, faster ways of getting things done.
Today's new lesson was derived purely from the idea that there must be "an easier way." (And apparently there is!)
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Every day we have the OPPORTUNITY to challenge the status quo.
We can test our LIMITS of what we believe to be true and acceptable. Additionally, if we are open-minded to the ideas of others, we have the ability to learn without a great INVESTMENT of time and/or energy.
I have to thank my friend, James Farley, as he is the one that has lit my fire today, showing me that there are better ways… and if I will SHUT my mouth long enough, there are people willing to teach!
Cheers,
Zach
