Morning Motivator – Keep Fishing or Cut Bait?
-Arnold Glasgow
We are all CHALLENGED with the concern of when to stop giving more effort vs. stopping just before a breakthrough. The FEAR we have most is making the wrong decision and having to suffer through its aftermath.
If you CONTINUE to invest into a sinking ship, then you may lose TIME, MONEY and ENERGY. If you cut out too soon, you may NEVER open door wide enough to let all the opportunity in. So how do we GAUGE what the best action is?
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Using our INSTINCTS is a good play. Often we have a very hard time LYING to ourselves. If its time – its time. You can use MEASUREMENTS, which will you show you the past, but not necessarily the future, so go back to your instincts. You may also seek the MENTORSHIP and GUIDANCE of others. They will offer good advice for THEIR solution, just make sure their vision is shared with yours.
At the end of the day, we all live with our decisions – good or bad. Either way, we all SURVIVE. So knowing that whatever action you take won't be the end of the world, just ask yourself…
"What does my GUT tell me is best to do?" Then go with it. It's that DECISION MAKING that makes you great.
Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – Let Go of the Stress
- Horace
Ah stress… the wonderful feeling of total LACK of control and ENORMOUS pressure of unfinished business. Isn't it just so DARN fun?!
Understanding that STRESS will be a part of every day and every job, what can we do to LIMIT the affects? What STEPS can we take to make sure that we don't allow it to overrun our day, emotions and relationships?
Standing by your PRINCIPLES is one of the most critical ways to limit stress. By ENSURING that you have done the right things for the right people in the right ways, you are guaranteed that stress caused by a client failure to move, decide or accept is not YOUR failure. Additionally, your PRINCIPLES will serve as a guideline for action.
If you are EXECUTING in the most honest fashion, then your stress is often caused by limited time, not effort or direction.
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
I, like all others, wish that all STRESS was simply non-existent. Yet, each day, I, as well as the people around me, find ways to CREATE new stresses.
I recognize that often a STRESSOR placed on me by someone else is not their MALICIOUS attempt to ruin my day, rather it is their way of eliminating their PERSONAL stressors in an effort to bring balance to their day. They are "passing the buck" and may not even recognize it.
At the end of the day, stay TRUE to your convictions, stand STRONG in what you believe in and by all means continue to be FORTHRIGHT with others. You will find that your STRESS is limited when you are as candid with people as possible…
Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Prepare for Anything
- Unknown
Do you know what made BlackBerry® such a world wide SUCCESS? The device allows you to be PREPARED for change.
In the airport, if delayed, you can UTILIZE your time effectively and knock out the emails you haven't attended yet. In the event an appointment is CANCELLED, you are able to quickly reschedule and confirm from the device itself!
The Boys Scouts had it figures out long ago... ALWAYS BE PREPARED! You may never need to spring into action, but it sure is nice to have the TOOLS to do it!
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Understanding that you have very LITTLE control over your environment, allows you to "pre-succeed."
When you are PREPARED for the unexpected, you are already in a position to succeed during that time of turmoil.
Educate yourself. Have the right tools available. Ask for help.
These steps WILL help you always be prepared for the unexpected!!
Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator – The Confidence in Yourself
- Peter T. Mcintyre
Who do you KNOW that can do things better than anyone else? Who do you have TOTAL belief that they are able to accomplish exactly what you are seeking to achieve? Who is able to help you ATTAIN the dreams and goals you seek to passionately? For me - it is ME!
CONFIDENCE is a very interesting psychological element. It is not derived from emotion, education, size, speed or intelligence. It is purely a "BELIEF" with little to no foundation for its existence. What makes someone confident they can close the deal? The fact they did it once before? The fact the client likes them? Or is it something inside that just says – YES, this CAN be done!? (Remember that every occasion is new and unique, so past experience is not necessarily an indicator of guarantees for the future.)
As I have read books about TOP ACHIEVERS and associated with successful people, I have discovered that CONFIDENCE is a CHOICE. YES – A CHOICE! People CHOOSE to succeed and the subsequent focus that results from this choice creates a foundation of belief that provides the blind motivation to move forward in spite of fear or apprehension. If you accept this as a relative truth, then confidence is just the CHOICE to eliminate FEAR from your emotional options. Pretty simple, eh?
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Consider this: Have you heard the phrase, "fake it 'till you make it"? Sounds silly huh? It is until you recognize that this is a TACTIC for creating confidence in the face of fear.
By possessing a mind set of success and accomplishment, you create the ENVIRONMENT for success. Even if you are faking the "lack of fear," you ARE creating a temporary state of confidence that, with some small indication of success during this temporary time frame, can easily turn into REAL confidence!
Now, who do you think can BEST help you attain your goals? The answer is YOU… even if you don't believe it yet. Here's a tip: Just act like the way you want to be and you soon will be that way!! All success starts with a PURE belief in self.
Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - To Train or Battle?
- Unknown
There is a MANTRA in the military that if you are not fighting, you are training. I find that to be very SIMPLISTIC... and very appropriate.
As a professional, if you are not in a time that you are executing your job, shouldn't you be working on becoming better? That 30 minute down time between appointments - what do YOU do with it? The CANCELLED luncheon - how can you better use that time?
While many people look at is an OPPORTUNITY to "relax" or "space out", I SUGGEST that you see it as an opportunity to GROW your skill set!
2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
As part of my "professional pack" (the Oakley backpack I carry everywhere), I have some of my ESSENTIALS:
- Business Development Book (currently, "Linchpin" by Seth Godin. Thanks Rebecca!)
- Nashville Business Journal (to see what businesses and people I should be seeking to connect with)
- GRE Words to Know (growing my vocabulary and preparing for my test)
- iPod with "Mastering the Rockefeller Habits" by Verne Harnish in mp3
Don't get me wrong, every so often we all NEED a "break" in the day. At least if you are PREPARED, you can TRAIN outside of BATTLE, even if it is just sitting in your car listening to Verne on mp3 while you DREAM of a Corona on the beach...
Good employees train "not to lose," while real PROFESSIONALS train to WIN!
