Morning Motivator - Wear the Blue Collar

"A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him."
- David Brinkley, submitted by Arlene Raines

First, I must apologize to all my Star Wars fans for missing yesterday's acknowledgment of Yoda's quote. I am truly sorry Keith, James, Kim, Jody and all the others.

As for today's Morning Motivator, I was sent this and found it to be very IMPACTFUL. As LEADERS we are often on the "bleeding edge of change." We are the ones that are LAUGHED at in meetings, told that our ideas will NEVER work and are often talked about by others for the ACTIONS that we so passionately pursue. Yet, we are the ones that ACTUALLY make things happen...

It is the WORK ETHIC and RESILIENCE of a blue collar success story that drives the LEADER to achieve greatness. It is your WILLINGNESS to cast aside the pessimism of others and find the strength to BUILD UP your dreams into a tangible reality. It is our DUTY to build a LEGACY on the bricks cast at upon us.

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
When asked why I make some "occasionally controversial" comments, I often reply by saying, "I may not even believe what I ask, I simply want someone to ask the question everyone else is afraid to." We all have a responsibility to PUSH the comfort zone.

This is the resolve we must all take in our LEADERSHIP. We must be willing to STAND UP for our passions, believe in our own ABILITIES and most importantly, see that others allow us the OPPORTUNITIES to positively change their life/business/personal dreams!

Be the CHANGE MAKER! Drive your AMBITIONS! Do NOT let anyone get in the way of your SUCCESS!

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - I Know the Definition of "TRY"

"Do or Do Not. There is no try."
- Espresso Training Bike monitor

Last night I was COMPLAINING about a mild knee injury suffered in kick ball (yes, kick ball) as I was riding the stationary bike at the YMCA. Internally, I was having my own little PITY PARTY for "poor little Zach's bad knee." I looked down and saw move across the screen…

"Do or do not. There is no try."

I wondered who I was FOOLING by only giving half effort to "protect" my knee. I could do the work on the bike or not. However, if I was going to do it – I better get my BUTT in gear! So I did. And I busted out a GREAT workout… "bad knee" and all.

This made me think about the "EXCUSES" I make for myself at work, in personal relationships, with my family and more. How many times a week to I RATIONALIZE my way out of doing something I know I should be? How often do people miss OPPORTUNITIES because they are not willing to do more than "try?"

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP (for Joe):
Want to make a serious CHANGE? You are going to have to "buck up" and get busy! STOP making excuses… IMMEDIATELY!

Define your TOP PRIORITIES daily. Place them in order of IMPORTANCE for greatest impact. Set a completion time and GET TO IT!

Once you are able to FOCUS on the few, most important actions for the day – you will find that "trying" turns into DOING or NOT. Should you choose NOT, you will know why and understand the impact of that decision. This is called EMPOWERMENT! Enjoy it…

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Take It Like A Man (or Woman)

"The problem with most of us, is we'd rather be drowned in praise than saved by criticism."
- sent by Jason Denenberg, Junior Chamber President 2009-2010

Why is that SUCCESSFUL people always seem to do better and better? Have you wondered what their SECRET is?

SUCCESSFUL people understand that continual feedback is required to IMPROVE their business and approach. They REALIZE that by having people SUGGEST better ways of working together, they are crafting a RELATIONSHIP that can't be broken.

Are you WILLING to accept criticism? Will you ALLOW others to shape your success through discussions?

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
By ASKING for feedback you are allowing someone to customize their relationship with you. This is a tremendous COMPLIMENT and requires high levels of TRUST.

The BEST part to this whole situation - your clients are sharing the inside info on how to do MORE business with them!

Not bad when you can get PAID by asking for their ADVICE...

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - Are You a Franchise Owner?

"What differentiates a successful business from the others is its proprietary process of consistently creating positive outcomes."
- unknown

For a few years I had an IDEA on what the best way to do business was - methodically and systematically. We spoke a short bit about this in YESTERDAYS Morning Motivator as I mentioned reading the eMyth Revisited... which may prove me right.

In reading this book, it DETAILS the keys to success for "small businesses" (not large) and FOCUSES on the FRANCHISE model. This is a model of DUPLICATION and REPLICATION using processes and procedures. This got me thinking... Can you FRANCHISE your role at work?

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
How EXCELLENT would you be at your job if you were able to create a STREAMLINED process that anyone could duplicate?

You may be AFRAID you might lose your job if you make it too EASY - yet I contend, you would more likely end up in SENIOR MANAGEMENT.

By simplifying your role into a managed process that can be REPLICATED, you can begin to find the strategic advantages that truly will make your company (and you) GREAT!!

Cheers,
Zach

Morning Motivator - How to Make a Great Business

"Businesses are not built by extraordinary people but by ordinary people doing extraordinary things."
- unknown

Do you know what is required to CREATE an exceptional business? Where does SUCCESS begin at in a successful practice? I am not speaking about you having to OWN you company in order to do it either.

Often, we BELIEVE that the only way for us to "own" our future is to work for ourselves. While that is a GOAL for some, it is not a requirement to be successful. The MOST EFFECTIVE way of building your success is by ACTING as though you own the business – whether you do or not – then FOCUSING on what the best SYSTEMS are needed to ensure quality, speed of delivery and consistency in reporting.

Have you ever noticed that great companies seem to run like MACHINES? It is not by chance… they are built that way. Can your job be built the same way? Are you able to create a SYSTEM that allows you do to the minimum manual effort and still achieve MAXIMUM results?

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
All great businesses and business people know that a SYSTEMATIC approach to their duties is the most effective and efficient way of ACHIEVING top results.

By established a consistent and measurable approach to executing daily tasks, you will find that you are highly FOCUSED on best efforts and easily able to IDENTIFY faulty processes in the system. Sound BORING?

If you think it MAY be – ask your top producing COLLEAGUES… if they are in the office or not playing golf. Ever wonder what they do so they can AFFORD to do that???

Cheers,
Zach
