Morning Motivator - Being Consciously Incompetent

I promised Joe I'd put him in the Morning Motivator after a very EXCITING discussion yesterday.

We discussed being MASTERFUL of what you KNOW, while being CONSCIOULY INCOMPETENT of that you are not skilled at. Being an EXPERT in a niche capacity and allowing others the OPPORTUNITY to be experts in their space.

We AGREED that an ADVANTAGE is gained by "knowing what you don't know" and "accepting" that you never will (nor should you).

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
One could say that SUCCESS is portrayed by AWARENESS of "knowing what you don't know."

If true, then FAILURE would be "not knowing what you don't know." Joe called "unconscious incompetence," and went one step further to say the WORST is thinking you know it, when you really don't!

Are you AWARE of what you DON'T KNOW... or do you THINK you know it (unconsciously incompetent)? Your SUCCESS may rely on your ability to answer this question...

Morning Motivator - Encourage the Right Behavior

"What's the best referral program? Cash? Marketing share? One-for-One Referrals?"

The answer to the above question is NONE.

Realize that no one wants to feel "bought off" to give referrals. Yet, everyone is happy to make QUALITY referrals. They want to be RESOURCEFUL and HELPFUL for their clients.

There IS a good "motivator" to ENCOURAGE the RIGHT behavior though...

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
When people ask for a good REFERRAL program, what they are really asking for is a CONSISTENT, QUALITY lead generation system.

Don't worry about "closed deals" as your mark for "paying a referral." If you do, you will get fewer and fewer...

Instead, ENCOURAGE the QUALITY lead generation. Find out what your best referral partners like - golf, food, wine, sports, photography - and AFTER they refer you a good lead (that meets with you), send them a GIFT CARD (inside a thank you note).

You don't have to SAY its a "referral bonus"... Just keep doing it. They will get it and you will get more too!

Morning Motivator- A Dream Chasing Adventure

When was the last time you were REALLY uncomfortable?  I don't mean like you put your underwear on backwards, rather, the kind of uncomfortable that tests your STRENGTH and forces you to GROW.  Have you ever?? 

A vast majority of people in our society speak of DREAMS.  The ADVENTURE they will take "when…" and they ways they will CHALLENGE their self.  Most are waiting on SOMETHING which is undefined and lacking time frames.  These ideas are not dreams, they are FANTASIES.  Dreams you pursue… Fantasies you just think of with no action to follow. 

What is keeping you from CHASING your dreams?  What is keeping you from changing your FANTASIES into something much more real!? 

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:

DREAM CHASING is the most wonderful of all adventures.  This action creates the moments in life most memorable.  You will remember the emotions of being terrified, elated, nervous, confident, sick to your stomach and ready to conquer the world. 

You can use our favorite S.M.A.R.T. goals definition to put shape to your dreams and give them action! 

Be SPECIFIC about what you want to achieve.  Define MEASUREMENTS so you can track your progress (a great motivator).  Ensure your goals are ATTAINABLE (and find the resources to help you if needed).  Define REALISTIC time frame and actions (it is difficult to fly without a plane).  Most importantly – put a TIME FRAME on it (how soon should I achieve each milestone and/or total goal?) 

FEAR is the best of motivators and will keep you from DREAM CHASING if you are not strong enough to overcome.  Remember that there is NO FAILURE, only learning.  The only REAL failure, is the failure to believe in yourself and take action!

Morning Motivator – Learn by Teaching

I would like to make more MONEY.  I would like to have more FREE TIME.  I would like to be able to EXPLORE more.  My challenge is that I am not an EXPERT in the ways of creating money or time, nor am I a GREAT explorer.  

My NEW challenge is to find a "best way" to learn enough about these areas to be able to ACHIEVE my goals… and I BELIEVE I have found a way. 

Teaching is one of the GREATEST learning experiences available.  You are FORCED into researching your interests deep enough that you have an understanding such that you can transfer the knowledge to others.  Additionally, as with any learning for teaching, you will become AWARE of the nuances within the skill and learn ways to leverage or customize your approach.  By teaching, you begin on the path of MASTERING the skill set, while allowing the students you teach (who may know more than you in areas) to aid in your development. 

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Teaching is about finding a "comparative advantage" amongst others and sharing your "niche expertise" with those individuals.  You do not have to be a PhD professor to teach someone. 

Have you ever been surfing?  I have been many, many times while living in San Diego.  While I am not Kelly Slater (world surfing champion), I am still the expert in a room of people that have never surfed or only surfed a few times.  My KNOWLEDGE is greater than theirs, thus my ability to serve as a TEACHER in high. 

If you really want to learn about something, make a COMMITMENT to teach others.  Within your company, ask people to research SOCIAL MEDIA and report at the end of the month.  Assign a team to create a new marketing campaign for CONSIDERATION by senior management. 

The efforts these assignments will CREATE will yield great teaching, learning, experience and leadership…  So, what can you TEACH me??

Morning Motivator - I Hate Lines!

If you were able to CHANGE anything about your daily life, what would it be?? For me, it is to never again WAIT in line.

Customer Service (better stated 'client service') is ALL about making your patrons happy. About CREATING a memorable experience that eliminates pain. About PROVIDING processes that allow clients to get consistent, positive results from interacting with you.

So why are so MANY businesses failing??

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Businesses DEDICATE countless resources to research, polls, promotions, client appreciations and more. Yet, very few ask "what is the ONE thing can we do to make it easier to work with us?"

Excellent service is about solving the REAL issues, not putting a chocolate on their pillow or sending a follow up email.

Ask your clients what they want - then do it! Even if it sounds IMPOSSIBLE (as we all know that 'impossible' is a farce.)
