Morning Motivator - How Sharpie Achieves Goals

"The difference between a goal and a dream is the written word."
-Gene Donohue

What is the ONE thing you are MOST intrigued by? Aliens is a good answer, but for me, I am MOST intrigued by the psychology of ACHIEVEMENT. I am mesmerized at how some people are able to ACHIEVE so simply and others STRUGGLE time and time again. There are some common traits amongst TOP ACHIEVERS though...

Personally, I have IDENTIFIED two very COMMON traits amongst top producers - Continuing Education and Written Goals. Continuing education is pretty SIMPLE to understand - read more, learn more, apply more and do more. Once you commit to a lifestyle of GROWTH through personal education, you will find that opportunities begin to uncover themselves for you.

As for the second trait, written goals, I find that this is a seemingly more DIFFICULT concept for may to harness. People will many times say, "I have a list of what I NEED to do and I ACHIEVE from that." Interesting... that has NOTHING to do with your GOALS. Those may be tasks or action steps to achieving goals, but are NOT goals. The process of WRITING down your short and long-term commitments to GROWTH, SUCCESS and PERSONAL DREAM FULFILLMENT is what brings the GOAL (or DREAM) into a REALITY. It gives a tangible element to a THOUGHT or vision. Have you ever written down you goals? How many did you NOT achieve?

2 DEGREE SUCCESS STEP:
Goal setting and management are HUGE undertakings and many people/companies spend hours, days, weeks or more ESTABLISHING goals for the upcoming years, etc. The time spent to develop these MOTIVATIONAL measurements of success is invaluable and cannot be recaptured once spent. So why is that so often the goals that are SET, never are achieved? Say it again. Louder this time. Ok, you have go it!

They NEVER WROTE THEM DOWN. By failing to WRITE down your goals, you fail to keep a measurable and manageable record of your achievement. How will you know when you got to the goal if you have forgotten it or it is not CLEARLY defined?

If you have not written down any goals recently, try this. Work backwards from LIFE goals to weekly goals. Don't worry about any details to start, just brainstorm and then once you have them in place, start detailing with specific details and time measurements to achieve them. Continue to work down until you reach the actions you need to take next week to help SUPPORT your bigger goals... now you are rolling!

Cheers,
Zach
